Frequently Asked Questions
We get asked all the time about car washing & detailing. Here’s a list of the most common questions we get. If you have others, let us know!
What Is “Paint Correction” & Do I Need It?
Paint correction is a process that removes light scratches, swirl marks, and oxidation from your car’s paint, restoring clarity and gloss. If your paint looks dull, hazy, or is covered in fine scratches, paint correction can make it look dramatically better, bring back that shine and prepare it for long term protection like ceramic coating.
What’s the difference between Wax, Sealants & Ceramic Coatings?
Wax, sealants, and ceramic coating all protect your paint, but they’re very different in how long they last and how strong the protection is. Wax gives your car a nice shine and short term protection (a few weeks to a few months), sealants last longer (up to 6 months) with better durability, and ceramic coatings bond to the paint’s clear coat to create a hard, protective layer that can last for years. The higher up you go, the more protection you get against UV rays, dirt, and light scratches.
What Actually Is a Ceramic Coating?
A Ceramic Coating is a liquid polymer that chemically bonds with the clear or gelcoat surface of the vehicle. This creates a durable, protective layer. Different than waxes or sealants, ceramic coatings provide longer-term protection against UV rays, oxidation, water spots, dirt, and minor surface scratches. They also significantly enhance gloss and can make the surface easier to clean.
Will My “5 Year” Ceramic Coating Really Last 5 Years?
Ceramic Coatings are rated on a Hardness Scale and are marketed in “Years”. However, how long a coating will actually last is based on numerous factors like the usage and miles driven with the vehicle, the environmental conditions that the car is typically in & the maintenance and cleaning techniques used on the coated surfaces. We’re happy to discuss further how coating cleaning & maintenance can maximize results & what coating might be best for your vehicle.
How Often Should I Get a Full Vehicle Detail?
Most people benefit from a full detail every 3–6 months, depending on how much they drive and how they care for their vehicle in between deep details. If you want your car looking sharp year round, a seasonal detail helps protect the paint, preserve the interior, and keep that “new car” feeling longer.
Is Professional Detailing Worth the Cost?
Yes! (we think so) Professional detailing goes far beyond a car wash and vacuum. It protects your paint, prevents long term damage to surfaces, restores shine and comfort, and can even boost resale value. Think of it as an investment in keeping your car looking newer for longer.
I’ve Heard Automatic Car Washes Are Not Good For Cars, Is That True?
Automatic car washes may be quick and convenient, but they use harsh brushes, harsh chemicals and recycled water and yes, they can sometimes do more harm than good. The stiff bristles and dirty cloths in the tunnel wash can leave behind scratches, swirls, and even strip away wax or protective coatings, which dulls your paint over time. A professional hand wash is gentler, safer, and keeps your car looking newer, much longer. That being said, it is convenient. If you’re gonna use them, we recommend a light paint correction every couple years and keeping a quality wax, sealant or coating on the surface at all times.
How Does a Detail Compare to Cleaning My Car Myself?
Regular cleanings are great! But, professional detailing uses specialized tools, products, and techniques that reach places most people won’t, removes surface contaminants most people can’t & safely restores surfaces, without damage. You’ll notice a deeper clean, longer lasting protection, and results that are tough to achieve with DIY products and cleans.
Is detailing cars and boats pretty much the same?
Beyond size, the biggest difference between detailing & maintaining cars and boats is the elements they face. Boats endure harsher UV rays, constant moisture, and year round exposure, especially here in Utah, where any outdoor storage conditions can add to the wear. Because of this, boats need specialized products and processes for lasting protection. What works to protect a car for months may only last days on a boat, which is why the right care makes all the difference. Ask us how we can help keep your boat protected
